REST hooks integration

Five thousand apps, one webhook away.

Zapier connects through REST hooks: subscribe a Zap to a WhatsApp event, or call the messages endpoint from any Zap with an API key.

How Zapier connects

In order. A person on our side does this with you during onboarding if you prefer.

  • Subscribe Zaps to eleven WhatsApp events through REST hooks
  • Send template or session messages from any Zap
  • Create or update contacts, tags and attributes
  • Enrol a contact in a journey or post an event that starts one
  1. 1

    Create an API key

In Settings, choose API keys, create a key with the scopes the Zap needs (for example messages:send and contacts:read), and copy it once.

  2. 2

Trigger: subscribe a Zap to an event

Use Zapier's Webhooks by Zapier trigger, or the REST hook subscribe endpoint, to receive events such as message received, contact opted out or form submitted.

  3. 3

Action: send a message from a Zap

Add a Webhooks by Zapier action that POSTs to the messages endpoint with the API key, the recipient and a template name with its parameters.

  4. 4

    Test with a sample

The sample-data endpoints return a realistic event so the Zap can be mapped before a real message arrives.

New lead in a form tool

A Typeform or Google Forms submission creates the contact, tags it with the campaign, and posts an event that starts the enquiry journey.

Order shipped in the store

When the store marks an order shipped, a Zap sends the utility template with the tracking link and moves the contact to the Shipped stage.

Questions

Is there a listed Zapier app?

Not yet. The connection uses Zapier's built-in Webhooks steps with the REST hook and messages endpoints, which is how Zapier's own guide recommends connecting an API without a listed app.

Can I use Make, n8n or Pabbly instead?

Yes. The same REST hooks and endpoints work with any of them; each has its own page here.
