REST hooks integration
Automation you host yourself.
n8n's Webhook and HTTP Request nodes connect to the API directly, so a business that keeps its automation on its own servers keeps WhatsApp there too.
How n8n connects
In order. A person on our side does this with you during onboarding if you prefer.
- Receive eleven WhatsApp events in a self-hosted workflow
- Send messages, manage contacts and post events from HTTP Request nodes
- Per-key IP allowlist so only your server can use the key
- Test-mode keys for building without sending
- 1
Create an API key
In Settings, choose API keys, create a key with the scopes the workflow needs, and optionally restrict it to your server's IP.
- 2
Receive events with a Webhook node
Add a Webhook node, copy its production URL, and subscribe it to the events you need through the REST hook endpoint.
- 3
Verify the signature
Add a Crypto node that computes HMAC-SHA256 over the timestamp and body and compares it with the signature header, so only genuine deliveries proceed.
- 4
Send with an HTTP Request node
POST to the messages endpoint with the API key in the header and the template parameters from earlier nodes.
A hospital's own systems
The hospital information system posts "report ready" to n8n, which sends the document template and sets a follow-up reminder through the API.
Sync to a data warehouse
Every message status event is appended to the warehouse for reporting beyond what the product's analytics show.
Questions
Can the API key be locked to my server?
Yes. Each key can carry an IP or CIDR allowlist, and requests from anywhere else are refused.
Is there a rate limit?
Yes, per key, with the limit and remaining count returned in response headers so a workflow can pace itself.
Other integrations
Built on the developer platform. See pricing: integrations are included, not add-ons.

In a forty-minute call we go through what you send today, what it costs you, and what a flagged number would cost you. Then we set up a workspace on your own Meta app and build the first campaign with you.
